Welcome to the fourth edition of DzFest
A growing platform dedicated to championing, elevating and celebrating Algerian culture in the heart of the United Kingdom.
This year, DzFest 2026 is shaped by the theme Heritage & Decolonisation. Algeria’s cultural heritage is vast, layered and deeply alive: carried through garments, music, language, film, ritual, memory, hospitality and everyday practice.
This edition moves beyond celebration alone. Through exhibitions, talks, film screenings, music, workshops, university partnerships and public conversations, DzFest invites audiences to revisit inherited narratives, challenge colonial framings, and explore how Algerian traditions continue to be preserved, transformed and transmitted across generations and across the diaspora.
At its heart, DzFest 2026 asks a simple but urgent question: who gets to define Algerian heritage, and how can communities reclaim the authority to tell their own stories?
The Programme
Brings together a rich multidisciplinary journey through Algerian heritage, identity and cultural memory.
A central focus of this edition is the Blousa, an iconic garment from Western Algeria. Through exhibition, talks and ArtFest, the Blousa becomes a point of departure for exploring textile heritage, craftsmanship, women’s memory, cultural ownership and decolonial representation.
The festival also honours Algeria’s Arabo-Andalusi musical traditions, including the repertoires associated with Algiers, Tlemcen and Constantine. Through conference & choir performance, DzFest opens space for both celebration and critical dialogue around transmission, memory, diaspora and the living future of this musical heritage.
Alongside these two major strands, DzFest 2026 expands the conversation through Algerian cinema, contemporary design, facial tattoo heritage, Bendir percussion, community music and university-led dialogue. Together, these events present heritage not as something fixed or folkloric, but as a living archive shaped by resistance, migration, creativity and renewal.
Decolonisation
Our commitment to decolonisation is reflected not only in the themes we explore, but also in the spaces we choose and the partnerships we build.
By bringing Algerian culture into galleries, cinemas, universities, community spaces and historic cultural venues, DzFest creates room for Algerian and North African voices to lead, question, teach and reimagine heritage on their own terms.
This is not about nostalgia. It is about cultural authorship, visibility and repair. It is about placing Algerian stories, aesthetics, sounds and knowledge systems in spaces where they can be seen, heard and taken seriously.
Whether you are joining us for an academic debate, an exhibition, a film screening, a workshop, a concert, or simply a warm cup of mint tea, DzFest welcomes Algerians and non-Algerians alike into a shared space of discovery, reflection and cultural renewal.
